About Alloy Tether

Analysis of 7 Jul 2026

Alloy Tether (aUSDt) is a dollar-pegged tethered asset launched by Tether on June 17, 2024 and backed through overcollateralized Tether Gold (XAUT) positions on Ethereum. The design lets users mint aUSDt by depositing XAUT collateral while the smart contracts track collateral and minted supply through oracle-based ratios.

As of July 7, 2026, CoinGecko lists aUSDt near $0.9998 with about 50 million tokens outstanding, but trading activity is extremely thin at roughly $20 in 24h volume.

The key issue is no longer product design but continuity: Tether posted a June 17, 2026 update saying it would begin a planned wind-down of Alloy by Tether and aUSDt after reviewing user activity, market demand, and broader priorities.
