Sustainability75

Can this project keep operating and funding itself for years?

Deeply integrated into Curve Finance's automated market maker infrastructure, crvUSD maintains stability through PegKeeper mechanisms and multi-collateral backing.1

Transparency85

Can outsiders see and check what the team and the protocol do?

All collateral vaults, debt ceilings, liquidation bands, and PegKeeper operations are fully verifiable on-chain with real-time analytics dashboards.1

Revenue65

Does the protocol earn real fees or income from use?

Borrowing interest rates and PegKeeper trading arbitrage fees flow back to the Curve DAO and veCRV governance lockers.1

Innovation85

Is the technology being built and shipped, and does it matter?

LLAMMA algorithm introduces continuous soft liquidation, gradually converting collateral to stablecoins as prices decline to prevent sudden liquidation penalties.1

Community65

Who uses, builds and holds it, and how durable is that base?

Governed by the extensive Curve DAO and liquidity provider community, maintaining high DeFi mindshare among yield managers.1

Tokenomics60

Do supply, issuance and unlocks protect holders from dilution?

Collateralized debt position mechanics ensure crvUSD supply dynamically expands and contracts based on market borrowing demand and interest rates.1

About crvUSD

Analysis of 2 Oct 2026

crvUSD is Curve Finance's overcollateralized USD stablecoin launched in 2023. Its core differentiator remains LLAMMA (Lending-Liquidating AMM Algorithm), which gradually converts collateral across liquidation bands and can de-liquidate positions if prices recover.

Full overviewShow less

As of June 30, 2026, CoinGecko shows crvUSD trading close to peg at about $0.9986, with roughly 171.5M circulating supply, about $171M market cap, and around $10.8M in 24-hour volume. That is a meaningful contraction from the April 2026 supply range near 250M-293M, so current adoption should be treated as narrower but still liquid for a DeFi-native CDP stablecoin.

Curve remains a major DeFi venue, and crvUSD continues to benefit from the Curve ecosystem, PegKeeper infrastructure, scrvUSD yield demand, LlamaLend borrowing, and integrations such as Yield Basis and Resupply. The June 2026 LlamaLend v2 rollout on Optimism is strategically important because it reduces the old crvUSD-only borrowed-asset constraint and broadens Curve's lending stack.

The risk profile also worsened: the March 2026 sDOLA LlamaLend incident showed that vault-style collateral can be manipulated, while the separate June 2025 Resupply exploit showed how crvUSD-linked third-party markets can create losses even when core crvUSD remains solvent.

Strengths
  • LLAMMA soft liquidation remains a differentiated design that converts collateral gradually across price bands instead of relying only on instant hard liquidation
  • Curve Finance is one of DeFi's most established liquidity venues, giving crvUSD a native distribution base, governance process, and long-running security culture
  • CoinGecko showed crvUSD near peg at about $0.9986 on June 30, 2026, with a tight 24-hour range around $0.9978-$0.9992 despite lower outstanding supply
  • LlamaLend v2 began rolling out in June 2026 and expands the lending architecture beyond the original crvUSD-only borrowed-asset model, potentially improving long-term utility
  • scrvUSD gives users an on-chain savings route funded by crvUSD borrower fees, creating a direct demand sink when lending activity is healthy
  • Yield Basis and Resupply integrations provide additional demand channels for crvUSD, even though both need ongoing risk controls because they concentrate growth in complex DeFi loops
  • The April 2026 tokenized-claim proposal for LlamaLend bad debt is a transparent market-based recovery design rather than an opaque bailout, though it still needs execution proof
Risks
  • Supply and market cap contracted to about 171.5M crvUSD and $171M on CoinGecko by June 30, 2026, down materially from April estimates, reducing liquidity depth and adoption momentum
  • The March 2026 sDOLA LlamaLend incident produced about $239K-$240K in attacker profit through price manipulation of vault-style collateral, even though core Curve contracts were not described as compromised
  • The June 2025 Resupply exploit drained roughly $9.5M-$9.8M from a crvUSD-linked third-party market, illustrating how integrations can transmit reputational and liquidity risk back to the crvUSD ecosystem
  • $700K bad debt in the CRV-long LlamaLend market from October 2025 remained an overhang after the April 2026 market-based recovery proposal, especially for trapped lenders
  • LLAMMA soft liquidation can lock collateral and produce gradual losses; hard liquidation at zero health still causes total collateral loss regardless of later price recovery
  • Yield Basis credit exposure, scrvUSD, reUSD, and LlamaLend loops make total system borrowing exposure harder to trace during fast market stress
  • crvUSD remains tiny versus USDT, USDC, and DAI, limiting centralized exchange access, payment utility, and broad stablecoin network effects
Competitive position

crvUSD competes as a specialized DeFi-native CDP stablecoin rather than a mass-market payment stablecoin. CoinGecko showed about $171M market cap and rank 182 on June 30, 2026, which is far below USDT, USDC, and DAI and below the April 2026 crvUSD supply estimates.

Full positionShow less

Its advantage is not scale but design: Curve's LLAMMA soft-liquidation model, PegKeeper infrastructure, deep Curve integration, and scrvUSD yield route make it attractive for advanced DeFi borrowers and liquidity managers.

Against centralized stablecoins, crvUSD offers on-chain overcollateralization and censorship-resistant issuance, but it lacks fiat rails, broad CEX liquidity, and payment distribution. Against DAI and GHO, crvUSD remains more technically novel because of LLAMMA, but the March 2026 LlamaLend sDOLA exploit and the 2025 Resupply exploit show that vault collateral and integration layers must be monitored continuously.

LlamaLend v2 improves the competitive setup by allowing supported assets on both sides of lending markets instead of forcing every market through crvUSD, which can make Curve's lending stack more useful while reducing some single-asset bottlenecks.

Conclusion

crvUSD remains one of the more technically credible decentralized stablecoins, but the June 30, 2026 refresh is less bullish than April. The peg is currently healthy near $0.999 and 24-hour trading stayed tight around $1.00, supporting a high but not perfect peg-confidence probability.

Full conclusionShow less

However, CoinGecko supply and market cap dropped to about 171.5M and $171M, and the ecosystem has absorbed multiple lending-integration warnings: a March 2026 sDOLA LlamaLend price-manipulation incident, the earlier Resupply donation/oracle exploit, and unresolved LlamaLend bad debt. LlamaLend v2's June rollout is a real product improvement and can broaden Curve's lending market design, but it also increases the need for conservative collateral onboarding, oracle controls, and risk monitoring. crvUSD should be viewed as a strong DeFi-native stablecoin for users who understand Curve mechanics, not as a low-risk substitute for the largest fiat-backed stablecoins.
