Qtum is an open-source proof-of-stake Layer 1 that combines a Bitcoin-derived UTXO ledger with EVM smart contracts through an account-abstraction layer. Its v29.1 hard fork activated in January 2026, incorporating Bitcoin Core 27–29 work and selected Ethereum Pectra features, including the BLS12-381 precompile.

Qtum now documents a published MetaMask Snap that supports QTUM, QRC-20 tokens, and Qtum smart-contract calls. The same documentation describes bridged USDC transfers between Sepolia and Qtum, while Qtum's May update gave only summer 2026 guidance for production bridge availability.

The November 2025 halving reduced the block reward to 0.25 QTUM and official guidance estimates annual inflation near 0.25%. A DEX, prediction market, and games remain development or audit-dependent work.
