About TrueUSD
Analysis of 21 Oct 2026TrueUSD (TUSD) is a fiat-backed stablecoin launched in March 2018 by TrustToken to provide one-to-one US dollar parity. Operational control transferred completely to the Asian consortium Techteryx in July 2023.
Full overviewShow less
In September 2024, the US Securities and Exchange Commission settled fraud charges against original operators TrueCoin LLC and TrustToken Inc. Regulators found that 99% of reserves backing TUSD by September 2024 sat in a speculative offshore commodity fund.
In October 2025, the Dubai International Financial Centre Court issued a worldwide freeze covering $456 million in disputed Aria fund reserves. Former US operator Archblock LLC subsequently filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy in Delaware following over $500 million in historical fund defaults.
Major exchanges have stripped TUSD of collateral utility, and European platforms delisted the token under Markets in Crypto-Assets rules.
Strengths
- Chainlink Proof of Reserve feeds on Ethereum verify custodial balances every 24 hours with a 5% deviation threshold before new minting.
- Native smart contracts operate across Ethereum, TRON, and BNB Chain to support cross-chain settlement.
- An emergency liquidity bailout arranged by Techteryx backer Justin Sun preserved secondary market redemption operations during the reserve dispute.
- ERC-20 and TRC-20 token standards allow low-cost transfers across decentralized exchange pools.
Risks
- The Dubai DIFC Court worldwide freeze on $456 million in reserves leaves a large share of historical backing illiquid and contested.
- Archblock LLC Chapter 11 bankruptcy proceedings in Delaware create ongoing legal and counterparty uncertainty around historical operations.
- On September 24, 2024, TrueCoin and TrustToken agreed to $163,766 each in SEC civil penalties over undisclosed offshore reserve investments.
- Multi-jurisdictional litigation between Techteryx, First Digital Trust, and Aria Commodities DMCC delays potential reserve recoveries.
- European Union MiCA non-compliance and S&P Global's lowest 5 out of 5 stability score restrict institutional adoption.
Competitive position
TrueUSD holds a diminished position in the fiat-backed stablecoin sector compared to regulated leaders Tether (USDT) and Circle (USDC). Institutional adoption contracted sharply after the September 2024 SEC enforcement action and the October 2025 Dubai DIFC Court freeze on $456 million.

Binance and peer exchanges removed the token from margin collateral schedules and zero-fee promotional trading tiers. Furthermore, disqualification under European Union MiCA rules forced regulated European exchanges to delist TUSD trading pairs.
While Chainlink Proof of Reserve feeds still monitor reported balances, oracle checks cannot resolve cross-border custody litigation or bankruptcy claims. As a result, the token serves mainly legacy holders on TRON and Ethereum rather than institutional payment rails.
Conclusion
TrueUSD faces severe structural and legal impairments despite continuing onchain operations across Ethereum and TRON. The unresolved $456 million Dubai DIFC Court reserve freeze and Archblock LLC's Chapter 11 bankruptcy weigh heavily on collateral quality.
Full conclusionShow less
Regulatory fallout from the September 2024 SEC fraud settlement and European MiCA delistings further restricts exchange liquidity and institutional trust. Until Techteryx resolves cross-border custody litigation and restores audited cash backing, TUSD remains among the highest-risk stablecoins in the market.
