Analysis of 1 May 2026Union (U) is a Layer 1 blockchain and zero-knowledge interoperability protocol that enables trustless cross-chain communication using ZK-SNARK proofs for consensus verification. Built on a modified Cosmos SDK with CometBLS consensus, Union extends the Inter-Blockchain Communication Protocol (IBC) beyond Cosmos to EVM chains, Solana, Aptos, and Bitcoin ecosystems without relying on trusted third parties, oracles, or multi-signature committees.

The mainnet launched on September 4, 2025, processing over $145 million in bridged assets during its alpha phase and reaching 420,000 users. Union's proprietary Galois proving system generates consensus proofs for 128 validators in under 7 seconds using just 5GB RAM on consumer hardware, while its Voyager relayer handles event-driven cross-chain message delivery.
The project raised $16 million across seed and Series A rounds led by Gumi Cryptos Capital and Longhash Ventures, with the founding team including CEO Karel Kubat (former CTO of Composable Finance) and CTO Cor Pruijs. Union currently integrates with Ethereum, Babylon, Berachain, Arbitrum, and BNB Chain, with Base, Sui, Sei, Solana, and Polygon in the pipeline.
