Coinbase Wrapped BTC is an ERC-20 and SPL token backed 1:1 by Bitcoin held in Coinbase Custody Trust. Launched in September 2024, the token brings native Bitcoin liquidity into decentralized finance across Ethereum, Base, Solana, and Arbitrum.

Roughly 84,500 cbBTC circulate on-chain, making it the second-largest wrapped Bitcoin asset behind WBTC (120,000 tokens). In May 2025, Coinbase integrated Chainlink Proof of Reserve with disclosed Bitcoin cold-storage addresses and automated minting circuit breakers.
Coinbase Custody Trust operates under New York Department of Financial Services supervision and pledges never to lend or rehypothecate backing BTC. On Base, cbBTC powers more than $1 billion in cumulative Morpho loan originations alongside integrations on Aave, Compound, Curve, Aerodrome, and Ledger.
