DeSo is a Layer 1 blockchain built specifically to scale storage-heavy decentralized social media applications. Unlike general-purpose networks that charge high fees for state storage, the protocol indexes posts, profiles, and social graphs directly on-chain for fractions of a cent.

The network transitioned to Revolution Proof of Stake consensus to increase throughput and implemented transaction fee burning. Its core infrastructure supports native creator coins, tipping, on-chain encrypted messaging, and decentralized order-book trading.

Flagship applications include the Diamond social network, launched in November 2022, and the Focus creator monetization platform. In March 2026, the United States Securities and Exchange Commission dismissed its civil enforcement action against founder Nader Al-Naji with prejudice, removing a multi-year legal overhang.
