Kraken Wrapped Bitcoin (kBTC) is a 1:1 Bitcoin-backed ERC-20 token issued by Kraken Financial, a Wyoming-chartered Special Purpose Depository Institution (SPDI). Launched on October 17, 2024, kBTC brings native Bitcoin liquidity to Ethereum, OP Mainnet, Ink (Kraken's OP Stack Layer 2), and Unichain at contract address 0x73E0C0d45E048D25Fc26Fa3159b0aA04BfA4Db98.

Every kBTC unit is backed by segregated Bitcoin held in custody at Kraken Financial, verifiable onchain at the Bitcoin reserve address bc1q56p075cgup705urqy2w8hwggcf7h7k039afh0g. As of the July 2, 2026 market snapshot, kBTC trades at $59,957.63 with a market capitalization of $342.04 million (~5,705 BTC) and $2.08 million in 24-hour volume, expanding 42.5% from $240 million in February 2026.
On May 14, 2026, Kraken deprecated its December 2025 LayerZero OFT bridge following industry-wide cross-chain bridge exploits (including the April 2026 Kelp DAO incident) and migrated kBTC and all future wrapped assets exclusively to Chainlink's Cross-Chain Interoperability Protocol (CCIP). The Chainlink CCIP integration secures cross-network transfers through 16 independent oracle nodes, an isolated Risk Management Network, built-in token transfer rate limits, and ISO 27001 and SOC 2 Type 2 certified infrastructure.
Core ERC-20 smart contracts and client architecture were audited by Trail of Bits prior to launch. DeFi integrations span Curve, Morpho, Velodrome, Yearn, CowSwap, ParaSwap, Beefy, deBridge, and Kraken's Bitcoin yield vault product rolled out on May 27, 2026.
