Maker is the legacy governance token of MakerDAO, the decentralized credit protocol rebranded as Sky Protocol. Launched on Ethereum in 2017, the protocol issues the DAI and USDS stablecoins against over-collateralized crypto and real-world assets.

As of October 2026, CoinGecko records $5.74 billion in protocol total value locked across its vault infrastructure. Under the Endgame overhaul begun in August 2024, MKR upgrades into the SKY token at a 1:24,000 ratio.

In May 2025, on-chain governance shifted exclusively to SKY, and a 1% quarterly Delayed Upgrade Penalty started in September 2025. By October 2026, roughly 82,793 unmigrated MKR remain on-chain against an original 1,005,577 maximum supply.
