Unit Bitcoin (UBTC) is a one-to-one Bitcoin-backed token built by Unit Protocol for Hyperliquid. Launched in February 2025, the asset bridges native Bitcoin to HyperCore HIP-1 spot markets and the HyperEVM smart contract layer.

A system contract at address 0x9fdbda0a5e284c32744d2f17ee5c74b284993463 links HyperEVM ERC-20 balances with HyperCore token 0x8f254b963e8468305d409b33aa137c67. Three independent Guardians (Hyperliquid, Unit, and Infinite Field) secure locked Bitcoin using a two-of-three Multi-Party Computation threshold signature scheme.

Guardian nodes split cryptographic key shares inside AWS Nitro hardware enclaves and require two Bitcoin block confirmations before minting UBTC. Unit Protocol charges zero deposit or withdrawal fees beyond native network gas costs and enforces OFAC sanctions screening.

By November 6, 2026, Unit Protocol secured $542.9 million in Bitcoin bridge deposits on DeFiLlama within a $945.9 million multi-chain total.
