Wrapped Ether (WETH) is the canonical ERC-20 wrapper for native Ether, deployed via the immutable WETH9 smart contract by DappHub in December 2017. Because native ETH predates the ERC-20 standard, decentralized exchanges, lending markets, and automated vaults use WETH for standardized token allowances and transfers.
