Tokenomics is the set of rules governing a cryptocurrency's supply schedule, allocation, vesting unlocks, utility, and value capture. Strong protocol engineering can still leave token holders with persistent dilution if locked supply, insider allocations, or unshared fee flows work against them. This guide walks through six verification steps using on-chain data, primary protocol documentation, and StrictScore's Tokenomics pillar ratings.

Why Token Design Separates Protocol Usage From Token Value
Protocol adoption and token holder outcomes often diverge. A network can process billions of dollars in transaction volume while its native token faces steady dilution from monthly vesting unlocks or treasury emissions.
StrictScore evaluates these mechanics inside the Tokenomics pillar of the six-pillar STRICT methodology. Across the seven cryptocurrencies in this guide, Tokenomics pillar ratings span from 14 out of 100 to 95 out of 100, illustrating how supply rules and cash-flow rights differ across token designs.

Step 1: Analyze Supply Mechanics and the FDV Gap
Supply analysis starts with circulating supply, total supply, maximum supply cap, and the gap between circulating market capitalization and fully diluted valuation (FDV). Circulating supply counts the tokens currently liquid in public markets, while maximum supply sets the upper bound that protocol rules allow to exist. When only a small fraction of maximum supply circulates, the FDV gap widens and every scheduled unlock moves tokens from locked reserves into the public float.
Dica
Verify both the percentage of maximum supply already circulating and the absolute unit count on a block explorer and supply tracker before comparing valuations across a sector.
Pró: Hard Cap With High Circulating Float
Consensus or immutable contract code enforces a fixed maximum supply, and nearly all tokens already circulate. Holders face minimal overhang from unissued reserves.
Contra: Low Float or Extreme Unit Overhang
Either a large majority of maximum supply remains locked awaiting release, or an extremely large unit count (BitTorrent has roughly 968.4 trillion circulating) leaves heavy unit overhang.
Worked Examples: Bitcoin, BitTorrent, and Official Trump
Bitcoin (BTC) earns a Tokenomics pillar rating of 95 out of 100 (STRICT 92, risk 2 out of 10) as of 2026-10-15. Consensus rules enforce a hard 21 million BTC cap (Bitcoin Core validation documentation (abre em uma nova aba)) with block subsidies halving every 210,000 blocks (bitcoin.org vocabulary (abre em uma nova aba)). StrictScore's input set, as of 2026-10-15, records over 94% of maximum supply circulating (see CoinGecko (abre em uma nova aba)) and zero venture unlock dilution.
BitTorrent (BTT) shows why an absence of vesting cliffs does not guarantee a high supply rating, scoring 25 out of 100 on Tokenomics (STRICT 35, risk 6 out of 10) as of 2026-10-22. Its supply is fully unlocked and an October 16, 2026 burn retired 21.62 trillion BTT (2.18%), verifiable on the BTT token page on BscScan (abre em uma nova aba), but about 968.4 trillion circulating tokens (StrictScore input set, 2026-10-22) still create what StrictScore assesses as heavy unit overhang. At the low-float extreme, Official Trump (TRUMP) scores 14 out of 100 on Tokenomics (STRICT 15, risk 10 out of 10) as of 2026-10-21 because only 281.87 million TRUMP circulate out of its 1.0 billion cap (28.2% on CoinGecko (abre em uma nova aba)).
Step 2: Examine Token Distribution and Insider Allocation
Supply totals tell you how many tokens exist, while distribution records tell you who controls them. Rather than relying on arbitrary percentage thresholds, check what share of total supply went to founding entities and early backers, whether unlocked insider reserves can be monetized at management's discretion, and whether token holders possess binding on-chain governance over treasury assets.
Dica
Cross-reference issuer allocation disclosures against on-chain token contracts and unlock trackers to see whether corporate affiliates control the majority of total supply.
RiscoDiscretionary Insider Monetization Risk
When corporate affiliates hold the majority of maximum supply and token holders have no on-chain governance rights or audited financial statements, unlocked insider pools can be monetized or distributed at management's sole discretion.
Worked Examples: Official Trump, Arbitrum, BitTorrent, and Aave
Official Trump (TRUMP) illustrates severe insider concentration in its 2026-10-21 analysis, scoring 14 out of 100 on Tokenomics, 7 out of 100 on Transparency, and 13 out of 100 on Sustainability (STRICT 15, risk 10 out of 10). Only 281.87 million TRUMP (28.2% of the 1.0 billion cap) circulate on CoinGecko (abre em uma nova aba), while StrictScore's input set, as of 2026-10-21, records that affiliates CIC Digital LLC and Fight Fight Fight LLC received 80% of supply across a three-year unlocking schedule. Fight Fight Fight LLC published a July 15, 2026 inventory update on its market update page (abre em uma nova aba), but token holders have no audited financial statements or governance rights, and up to 9.6% of total supply, drawn from unlocked insider pools, is slated for discretionary monetization.
StrictScore also flags holder concentration in each coin's input set. Both Arbitrum (Tokenomics 71 out of 100, STRICT 83, risk 4 out of 10 as of 2026-10-21) and BitTorrent (Tokenomics 25 out of 100, STRICT 35, risk 6 out of 10 as of 2026-10-22) carry a holder-concentration risk flag. By contrast, Aave (Tokenomics 89 out of 100, Transparency 80 out of 100, STRICT 89, risk 3 out of 10 as of 2026-10-18) executes all upgrades, risk parameters, and treasury allocations through public on-chain governance (Aave governance forum (abre em uma nova aba)), with zero concentration flags.
Step 3: Review Vesting Schedules and Unlock Calendars
Vesting schedules govern the pace at which locked allocations enter the circulating float. Even protocols with strong engineering experience recurring supply expansion while team, investor, and ecosystem vesting schedules remain open. Check the monthly unlock volume relative to circulating supply, the schedule completion date, and the 12-month forward unlock percentage.
Dica
Compare monthly unlock tranches against circulating supply and verify whether team and investor vesting schedules have finished or still run through multi-year windows.
Low Float, Large Affiliate Allocation
Concentrated Supply (Official Trump as of 2026-10-21)
Only 28.2% (281.87M of 1.0B TRUMP) circulates, and StrictScore's input set records 80% of supply going to affiliates on a three-year schedule (Tokenomics 14/100). The issuer disclosed on July 15, 2026 that roughly 67% of total supply had already unlocked (StrictScore registry, see the market update page (abre em uma nova aba)), so a low float is not the same as a locked supply.
Active Linear Unlocks
Monthly L2 Tranches (Starknet as of 2026-10-29 and Arbitrum as of 2026-10-21)
Starknet (about 5.68B STRK circulating of about 10B total supply per StrictScore's input set, Tokenomics 60/100) unlocks 127M STRK monthly through March 2027. Arbitrum (6.89B of 10B ARB circulating, Tokenomics 71/100) unlocks 92.65M ARB monthly through March 2027 (4.63% over 12 months).
Post-Vesting Maturity
Minimal or Completed Unlocks (Aave as of 2026-10-18 and Pendle as of 2026-10-22)
Aave has over 95% of its 16M cap circulating with a 1.2% 12-month unlock (Tokenomics 89/100). Pendle has 100% of team and investor vesting unlocked with ~174.1M circulating (Tokenomics 91/100).
Worked Examples: Arbitrum, Starknet, Pendle, and Aave
As of 2026-10-21, Arbitrum (ARB) earns an overall STRICT score of 83 (risk 4 out of 10), backed by 88 in Innovation and 88 in Transparency. Its Tokenomics pillar sits at 71 out of 100 as of 2026-10-21: 6.89 billion of the 10 billion ARB cap (68.9%) circulate on CoinGecko (abre em uma nova aba), while monthly unlocks of 92.65 million ARB run through March 2027 without direct fee sharing; StrictScore's registry records a 4.63% unlock over the next 12 months.
Starknet (STRK) scores 95 out of 100 on Innovation (STRICT 73, risk 6 out of 10) as of 2026-10-29, but its Tokenomics rating is 60 out of 100 because StrictScore's input set, as of 2026-10-29, records roughly 5.68 billion STRK circulating out of about 10 billion total supply, while 127 million STRK unlock monthly through March 2027. By contrast, Pendle (PENDLE) scores 91 out of 100 on Tokenomics as of 2026-10-22 with 100% of team and investor vesting unlocked (~174.1 million circulating on CoinGecko (abre em uma nova aba)), and Aave (AAVE) scores 89 out of 100 as of 2026-10-18 with over 95% of its 16 million cap circulating and a 1.2% 12-month unlock (CoinGecko (abre em uma nova aba)).
Step 4: Assess Token Utility and Value Accrual
Supply schedules measure dilution on the issuance side, while utility and value accrual determine whether protocol usage generates structural demand for the token. Separate symbolic governance voting from mechanisms that require users to stake or spend the token, or that route protocol revenue directly to token holders.
Dica
Check on-chain governance records and protocol documentation to confirm whether fees flow to token lockers or fund DAO buybacks, or remain in a treasury without holder distribution.
NotaProtocol Revenue vs. Holder Value Accrual
A protocol can generate substantial fee revenue while passing none of it to token holders. Verify whether fees flow to stakers and buyback contracts or remain inside a governance treasury.
Worked Examples: Pendle, Aave, Starknet, and Arbitrum
Pendle (PENDLE) combines completed vesting with direct fee sharing, earning 91 out of 100 on Tokenomics and 79 out of 100 on Revenue (STRICT 83, risk 6 out of 10) as of 2026-10-22. StrictScore's input set, as of 2026-10-22, records that the protocol captures AMM swap fees on Principal Token (PT) and Yield Token (YT) trades plus a 5% fee on all YT yield (see DeFiLlama (abre em uma nova aba) and Pendle's documentation), and that vePENDLE lockers capture those fees. The same input set notes daily protocol trading peaks of $158 million to $159 million in October 2026.
Aave (AAVE) pairs a high circulating float with recurring open-market buybacks, earning 89 out of 100 on Tokenomics, 93 out of 100 on Revenue, and 90 out of 100 on Sustainability (STRICT 89, risk 3 out of 10) as of 2026-10-18. Aave secures over $19.1 billion in net TVL and $10 billion in active loans across 20 networks (DeFiLlama (abre em uma nova aba), Aave documentation (abre em uma nova aba)), and StrictScore's input set records $907 million in 2025 revenue from lending spreads and GHO interest and a $50 million annual open-market AAVE buyback program as of 2026-10-18.
Starknet (STRK) scores 60 out of 100 on Tokenomics and 70 out of 100 on Community (STRICT 73, risk 6 out of 10) as of 2026-10-29. STRK serves as L2 gas, staking collateral (StrictScore's input set records over 1.6 billion STRK staked across more than 60,000 stakers), and governance token, though sub-cent fees following EIP-4844 and Stwo proof compression keep direct L2 sequencer fee revenue modest in StrictScore's assessment (Revenue 50 out of 100 as of 2026-10-29; see L2BEAT (abre em uma nova aba) for blob posting and the Stwo switch). Meanwhile, Arbitrum (ARB, Tokenomics 71 out of 100, Revenue 78 out of 100 as of 2026-10-21) generated $699,246 in 30-day chain fees as of 2026-10-21 from L2 sequencing and Timeboost auctions (DeFiLlama (abre em uma nova aba), Timeboost documentation (abre em uma nova aba)), which accrue to the Arbitrum DAO rather than ARB holders (StrictScore's recorded rationale).
Step 5: Measure Inflation and Net Supply Changes
Ongoing issuance and token burns alter supply long after launch. Check whether consensus rules enforce a programmatic decay in new issuance, whether governance contracts allow annual minting above the current cap, and whether token burns are funded by audited, recurring cash flows.
Dica
A one-time or quarterly token burn only offsets dilution if recurring protocol revenue supports it and the remaining circulating supply is free of heavy unit overhang.
Worked Examples: Bitcoin, Arbitrum, and BitTorrent
Bitcoin (BTC) sets the benchmark for predictable issuance, scoring 95 out of 100 on Tokenomics as of 2026-10-15. Full nodes validate the 21 million BTC limit (Bitcoin Core validation (abre em uma nova aba)), and consensus rules halve the block subsidy every 210,000 blocks (bitcoin.org vocabulary (abre em uma nova aba)), with over 94% of maximum supply circulating as of 2026-10-15 (see CoinGecko (abre em uma nova aba)). In governance-managed protocols, check statutory inflation caps alongside unlocks: for Arbitrum (ARB, Tokenomics 71 out of 100 as of 2026-10-21), StrictScore's registry records a 2.0% annual inflation rate and, separately, a 4.63% 12-month unlock rate; check both against Arbitrum's primary documentation before relying on them.
BitTorrent (BTT) shows why token burns must be weighed against recurring revenue quality and unit overhang. In its 2026-10-22 analysis, BitTorrent scores 25 out of 100 on Tokenomics, 25 out of 100 on Revenue, and 35 out of 100 on Transparency (STRICT 35, risk 6 out of 10). The protocol reported roughly $7.6 million in Q3 2026 decentralized service revenue (StrictScore's input set, citing bittorrent.com) and burned 21.62 trillion BTT (2.18% of supply) on October 16, 2026 (verifiable on the BTT token page on BscScan (abre em uma nova aba)). However, Q3 revenue breakdowns lack independent financial audits, recurring DeFi and BTTC fee capture on DeFiLlama (abre em uma nova aba) remains modest, and about 968.4 trillion circulating BTT (see CoinGecko (abre em uma nova aba)) still create what StrictScore assesses as heavy unit overhang as of 2026-10-22.
On-Chain Tokenomics Signposts to Monitor
Arbitrum and Starknet monthly L2 unlocks

Step 6: Compare StrictScore Tokenomics Pillar Ratings
The Tokenomics pillar page defines how StrictScore evaluates token design and integrates the rating into the overall STRICT score. Tokenomics is the final T of STRICT (Sustainability, Transparency, Revenue, Innovation, Community, and Tokenomics). It asks whether supply, issuance, and unlocks protect holders from dilution, weighing the supply schedule and inflation, what the token is used for, and how it was allocated and vests.
Dica
Read the coin report's Tokenomics rationale and cited primary sources alongside the sector weight profile on the StrictScore methodology page.
Evaluation Factors and Engine Scoring in StrictScore
As defined on the methodology page, the Tokenomics pillar evaluates three factor groups across nine metrics. Supply Mechanics examines how token supply is managed to protect long-term value capture and holder incentives, checking the maximum supply cap (if any) and inflation rate, the emission schedule and whether it decreases over time, and the token unlock schedule and vesting periods. Token Utility checks governance rights and voting power, staking requirements for network participation or rewards, and whether the token is required for paying transaction fees or accessing services. Distribution Fairness checks initial allocation between team, investors, and community, vesting schedules for team and early investors, and token concentration among top holders.
Every figure on the Tokenomics pillar page is read directly from the scoring engine and the coin registry when the page renders. For every coin, the research step records a Tokenomics rating from 0 to 10 in the coin's input set, with a written rationale and the third-party source pages it cites. A coin report prints that rating multiplied by 10 on the 0 to 100 scale.
The engine reads one weight table across 9 sector profiles, where the six pillar weights in each profile sum to 1.00, and the Tokenomics weight runs from 0.14 to 0.26: 0.26 in Monetary, 0.24 in Adoption-led and Derivative, 0.20 in Stable asset, 0.16 in Payments and RWA, and 0.14 in Network protocol, Financial protocol, Technical infrastructure, and Balanced. The engine multiplies the 0 to 100 Tokenomics rating by the profile weight, adds the other rated pillars the same way, divides by the weights in use, and rounds to a whole number for the STRICT score. A pillar without a rating (such as Revenue for Bitcoin or Official Trump) is marked N/A, never scored as zero, and excluded from both the sum and the weights in use. On the methodology page, the worked example is the highest-ranked coin whose rated pillar has a written rationale citing at least one third-party page (own-host URLs are excluded), and the evidence loader withholds any input set whose pillar rating differs from the published registry rating.
